If it were set up like the Chevy Volt, but big enough for me to be comfortable in, oh yeah!

I would take a diesel over a hybrid any day. Also, there are some cars out there that are not hybrid and get better mileage for less cost. Why would you want a hybrid?

Not me... can't do anything practical aside from short commutes with a hybrid. Try squeezing me, wife, and 2 big teenager boys with all our luggage and ski equipment for a weekend trip. LOL.

New my Prius cost $5000 less than I paid new for the car it replaced.
Like everything about the Prius but it has the cheapest econocar suspension of anything ever made.

" just wish the batteries weren't so toxic and expensive to replace when they fail."
tdioiler, what is expensive? In most states hybrid batteries come with an 8 year - 100K warranty. States that follow california, extend that to 10 year - 150K warranty. If you check there are stories of cabs that have gone 300K or longer and consumers reports did a test on a Prius that they tested when it was new and had original battery in it which did quite well!!!
As far as cost, a company is offering a re-furbished (all new cells) battery for 1,875.

Davisadm, New car maintenance went up ... But NOT for Hybrids
I have only replaced oil on my vehicle, will probably replace my wiper blades just to be proactive (3 years old)...Oiler fan...
Here is comparison... Jetta vs Prius I have a 2010, and I have a smile on my face every time i drive it. This is the 1st year for VW and their hybrid. check out vw reliability for their track record on new models, and new technology. Also check out jetta...

Too expensive, & too expensive to maintain. These people who rave about their hybrids, and "the money they save" Have they figured in how much more they paid for the hybrid, and what it will cost to replace the batteries?

Love my 2012 Prius. Especially when the best *hand-calculated* tank mileage was 55.5! I regularly get above EPA.

I just wish the batteries weren't so toxic and expensive to replace when they fail.
Ever have a laptop for more than three years? Gotta replace the battery.
Battery tech is were we need to spend money on.

I don't think I have ever seen a HYBIRD car. Is that one that flys or just a bird high overhead?

I drive a Camry Hybrid part-time, 2 or 3 12-hour shifts a week.
They handle better than I expected. And it's gratifying to put in 100+ miles a shift and only have to put in $12-15 gas.
But they sure suck in snow!
I think they make good sense for the average suburban or city driver who does a lot of stop-and-go, and doesn't have major cargo or passenger needs.
