Chevron Techron @ every oil change, as I am uncertain of the presence of detergents in many of the gas stations in my area

no damage , use as directed on the package
only works if you need it , like in the case of a car that does not get driven 6 month old gas looses it's punch , additive will help or car just back on the road after a long sit , additive will get things cleaned up
normal everyday cars , not to much use for anything in the gas tank but gas

Do a study. Maybe a car fan magazine will pay you for the article. ;)

I haven't noticed any improvement using additives...but I haven't used additives over a long period of time either.

I don't think that the private individual has the time/patience to make a decision here

What gas additives, why buy some additive, what have you gained by the time you spend the money to buy it?

Some additives used to make sense. Such as top cylinder lubricants. Not wise to use with catalytic converters though. With todays sophisticated engine controls,,the wise think is to stick with the formulations that the gas companies are formulating.
