No, the best magnets can do is capture metal shavings if they hapen to be on your fuel line, but no mpg at all

If this really worked, I'd think all car mfrs would have installed magnets all over the place long ago.

giwan..agreed, once several dozen people have pointed out the fallacy of magnets having any effect at all on totally non-magnetic fuel.. you would think it would go away...
we can hope-- and I for one will not post on this topic..
magnets on fuel lines -stupid idea- useless,
ciao end of discussion

Anyone using magnets to try to improve gas mileage needs to get their head examined!

theoretically the oil filter will be good enough on its own to filter tiny particles of metal.
Sometimes you can buy magnetic oil pan plugs, but this may be simply overkill or a feel good measure...may not help, but cant hurt.
magnet on fuel line is just silly.

It only works if you sprinkle Mountain Dew on your engine before starting it, then jumping up and down while standing in front of the open hood and singing a Jim Stafford song.

BORSHT writes: Just place a magnet on the oil filter and hold it in place with a tie wrap. ______ Any magnet that needs a tie wrap to say in place isn't strong enough to pull ferric particles out of the oil. A neodymium magnet will do this and it doesn't need a tie wrap.

Magnets with a constant magnetic field will do nothing to gasoline. Magnets only effect ferro magnetic materials or charged particles. So if you have desloved rust in your ethanol fuel, it could remove the rust. But this will not effect gas mileage. Puting magents on your oil filter is beneficial, since it will remove small particle of steel that might be floating in your oil. Just place a magnet on the oil filter and hold it in place with a tie wrap.

I don't believe mpg would be any better. I don't see the science to support that claim.

No benefits to my knowledge, but gasoline does have weight, less than water,so that fuel energy does have matter which stays attracted to the gravity pull of the Earths core,or it would float up out of an unsealed can into the atmosphere/space,some does by evaporation, but not into space.
That's my limit, light weight "Dino Juice" ,so we need some science scholars here to explain the differience between magnetic fields V/S the invisable force of gravity's pull(attraction). 6.25 # per gal.+ / - depending on content.
I can only visualize magnets on a fuel line atracting rust particle build-up inside that area maybe, similiar to tarter on a person's teeth until brushed, cleaned away.
There are some engine oil pan drain plugs with magnet elements to collect/trap metal residue at the bottom of ones vehicle oilpan to aid keeping the engine's wear debris out of circulation (some metal wear particles)for removal at oil change time.

"removing the catalytic converter would do better ..."
Only if comparing nothing to nothing times two.
A gasoline engine requires back pressure to run properly. Eliminate back pressure and you might get more peak HP but you lose on the low end torque where we spend most of our time driving. As a result the catalytic converter has almost no effect on MPG for gasoline engines.
Diesel is a completely different story.
