I get laughed at by those who think saving 20 cents on a fill-up is crazy, but it works. Over the years, I know I've saved several hundred dollars. It all adds up. Luckily, we have an early warning system here in OS, because PetCan and UPI are always first to increase their prices, so I make a dash for a lower-priced station, I'm actually going out shortly, since I'm down to half a tank, to beat the Saturday morning increase, mainly because US crude went up close to $2.00/barrel and our stations usually follow that trend.

I try to find the best prices through gas buddys and if I find a low price and others are going up, I will fill up even if I don't need to. Most of the times, we fill up just under half a tank. We live in a cold weather climate and it isn't wise to let the fuel level get low

There was also a gas station that was constantly behind everyone else... I would never go there when gas prices were coming down (they would have a price that had been competitive 3-4 days before, hadn't come down yet), but I would always go there when gas prices were going up (also had a price that had been competitive 3-4 days prior, hadn't come up yet). Unfortunately, that station is also closed. Now, I just tend to drive until the tank is near-empty, and fill up. Playing the "guess when prices are gonna go up" just doesn't have much value given the current situation.

I also don't fill up until I am close to empty. Less overall weight yields slightly higher MPGs. Albeit, it isn't much but every bit helps.
