No, unless it has been really muddy down my road and I have picked up a lot of junk in my wheel wells.

It does not run better but it gets better gas mileage when it's clean --> less dirt (lighter total vehicle weight) + less wind resistance = better gas mileage (usually an increase of 0.0000000000001 MPG, which is worth the time, effort, and expense of keeping my car clean)

I my young days when driving different jalopy vehicles, they seemed to run better, quieter, inside/outside, that was a Grand feeling on my part. I painted more on them than washing them.

Then I latched onto a real looker, only a 5 years old vehicle, from being a new car, the wax went into affect, and so did the Girls..... The wax was cheaper costs then, than the washed car or the girls, $$$ "Run better"... yes I did !!!

You have got, to be kidding. What does washing the car, have to do with the engine running better?

No, but changing the air in the tires makes a HUGE difference! You wouldn't believe the number of people that are driving around with 5+ year old air in their tires.

my truck has to be hand washed...otherwise water sprays over the coils and shorts out the ignition leaving me stranded along the roadside

You know you improve the drag coefficient by -0.00000000000002 when all that dirt is removed. What's more the weight reduction is improved by 1-2 grams on a 1-2 ton vehicle depending on the level of caked on dirt.

Often improves visibility from the inside, but doesn't run better.
