I calculate my mpg. at each fill. I certify that ethanol significantly reduced mph.

I log it but only bother to purchase fuel every 300 to 400 miles which is 6 to 8 gallons in Prius. Every 3 to 6 weeks.

Always save gas receipts then total monthly against all vehicle mileage V/S budget amounts and compare later with other costs to own/operate yearly all vehicles. Any pluses are handy for repairs or more pleasurable things.

I track it monthly on my own spreadsheet I have designed. Doesn't show me how to pay less but it does show me how much I have paid.

I budget my gasoline. Unless there's an usual trip, ie. going out of town, I set a "mileage" allowance and do a pretty good job sticking to it.

Log every fill up. Calculates to 41+ mpg for life of car. Can pull annual costs which have increased every year.
