So I've noticed that a lot of newer cars come with a button that is an "eco boost." As you can tell I do not know much about cars. What does this do for your fuel economy and what is the best way to implement its use?

Ask again in 6 months or so, and see what the consensus will be ....

THe only thing I can figure is that Eco Boost probably is like the "Economy" setting with some cars from the 1990s. In which case, this means that the transmission tries to get into higher gears sooner; passing is a little more of an effort, but on normal driving, it's done in a higher gear with lower RPM and lower strain on the engine.

I've heard the same disappointing reviews of the new engine in the F-150... nice try, just not there yet.

"The Eco Boost engine in the F-150 truck has a better mpg & tow rating than the much larger V-8."

I've talked to a few who drive the new Eco Boost engine and they have said when it comes to towing they don't have the power Ford claims and the mpg numbers are poor compared to the Triton V8.

Better power out of smaller engines which cuts down on weight which help improve mpg. I think you will see more turbos being used on gas engines in the future.

Ecoboost is a significant advance in engine design by Ford. It is a combination of direct fuel injection (as opposed to conventional port fI) and turbocharging in a smaller displacement engine.

These engines achieve much better fuel economy and more torque with less emissions. Unfortunately they up the initial cost a good $1000.

From what I've read a 1.6l engine will accelerate like a 2.6l when using EcoBoost.

From Ford Motor Company:

"EcoBoost is a family of turbocharged, direct injected gasoline engines produced by the Ford Motor Company. Engines equipped with EcoBoost technology are designed to deliver power and torque consistent with larger displacement, naturally aspirated engines while achieving approximately 20% better fuel efficiency and 15% reduced greenhouse emissions than these same engines. Relative to the power output and fuel efficiency of hybrid and diesel technologies, Ford sees EcoBoost as an affordable and versatile alternative and intends on using it extensively in future vehicle applications."

It's supposed to temporarily alter the tuning of the engine to provide additional horsepower - but it comes at a price ... a drop in gas mileage

PLAN TO SELL the prius THIS fall(and buy the new Ford hybrid), the wive keeps giving me the Toy Prius to drive, so I can check out posible problems, latest break lock ups in wet weather! The Prius is clearly the least favorite to drive and the Ford Escape hybrid the desired ride in our family!
