Yes.

The MPG estimates are usually about 3 mpg more than calculated.

The HSI is usuful for modulating the ICE into a "sweet point" and optimizing the regenerative brakes battery recharging

I use a OBDII ScangaugeII which helps me figure out how to
push my Prius over 66 mpg - not always possible but sometime I can
get +70 mpg on a trip in the summer....

Yes - The Camry Hybrid has both a digital and an analog meter. It is accurate to 1 MPG. It reads 44 but an actual check of gas filled divided into ODM shows it is actually 43. It also flashes my MPG since starting the car when I turn off the car. So you know what it is on short trips and you know what it is since a fill-up (Two totally different functions).

Yes, My E...read-out is really sensitive, it can even show a mileage drop when traveling steady and then read-out shows a relatively steady still reading. At this time I have switched on the headlamps, high blower speed, wipers, all at the same timing.

Then tried this approach again, with the results showing a certain mileage drop reading on the indicator, then realizing that fuel loss of engine extra loading/energy use = fuel cost increase just for the required personal safety/convenience/happy motoring.

The vehicles with the smaller 4 cylinder engines do work harder against these loads than the stronger V/6 and V/8 engines with more torque don't always show a noticeable drop,(less sensitive)or due to the design of a V.. engines ability to produce more sustaining torque.

The main difference today I think is owners still want the same amount of conveniences in a smaller economy compact vehicle as they did in the larger driven ones. Then requiring larger capacity alternators to be operated by the smaller engines, the energy balance for economy gets a bit upset in the taller gearing performance(highway speeds/hills/any type of towing, ETC. The FER on my vehicle shows the loss at times, Handy! info....
