Often I fill up when prices drop, all fuel users. Waiting for the ultimate lowest price usually gets missed/lost quickly. I also watch the Krazy Weather predictions as to where the prices keep falling or not.

Fill it up when gas prices went down, not by tank level unless it's almost empty.

Very, very rarely before the light comes on. I hate this tiny 25 gallon tank enough, I don't want to stop anymore.

True story: Fuel acts as a coolant for the fuel pump.

Judge for yourself from there...

This is always a tough choice to make. Filling up when near empty has a chance to damage the fuel pump on some cars when the gas sloshes around and the pump can suck dry or overheat. Lower gas levels also means less fluid pressure resulting in the pump having to work harder, not that it should matter in the short term. Filling up at half tank adds extra weight though, so in my opinion neither is better than the other.

Lately I've been refueling when the warning light comes on for an empty tank. I would prefer not to run it that low though, just sometimes am too busy to stop anymore often than that.

I haven't noticed that. At one time I only filled up when I was close to empty, but now I fill up if the price looks sort of decent

I actually have filled up both cars on some gas in the garage I had in gas containers. Price skyrocketed here end of July... Hoping to make it through end of next week.

hoping once school starts fuel will start coming down. that and some refinery production begins to get back to 90% plus level...

I dont like my jeep to get below 3/4 tank as gas prices seem to jump 0.30-0.50 per day sometimes. My Civic rarely gets below 1/2 tank. My wife seems to put in the gas she thinks she will use for the day.

At a half tank. With a 22.5 gallon tank it's less depressing to fuel up when I'm half empty

I like to make the cycles between fill-ups as long as possible - so I'm filling up a little after the low fuel light comes on.

In my Honda, I think the light comes on a little prematurely. If I go immediately to fill up when the light comes on, I end up having about 3 gallons left. Silly.

My pattern is helped by the fact that I have 3 gas stations within 30 seconds of the house with the Kroger fuel center usually being the cheapest (with an added card discount).

If I'm on the road, I'll fill when I get to the quarter tank mark since I don't know when the next best stop may be.
