I've driven it from Oklahoma, going through NM atnd AZ to get to Las Vegas. I can't give you a timeline from NM but I can say that my advise is to watch your gas tank and not allow it to get below 50%. Top it off when you can because here are long stretches out there with no gas stations (or else when you do find a station, the gas price is highway robbery).

Since the original topic is stale dated, we haven't heard any details on how the Vegas trip worked out, and that we're shifting focus on this discussion, I'm going to state that, as always, I'm with OceanArcher.

The main thread may be moot, but there's an interesting point here -- in Mississippi the fuel stations on the indian reservations display/charge the same price for gas as the stations off the reservation. Who is getting gouged?

This thread is obsolete; the original post indicated the member was going to travel in a week; the trip would have been started in a week and a half ago. There's no sense in providing him with travel information or telling him what you've done in the past.
I've asked that this topic be closed.

In some of the states with indian reservations gas is cheaper because the indians do not have to pay state fuel taxes only federal fuel taxes. This is a big deal in New York and Idaho and Wisconsin( states where I have saved a lot of money) and other states with reservation gas stations.

And this question relates to fuel economy how? You might want to ask in your local Austin Forum.

I made the trip from Oklahoma several years ago. My advise is to try to keep your tank topped off every chance you get. Never let it get lower than a third to quarter tank (at the least). There are stretches out there where you can drive a couple of hours before finding a gas station. And on the Indian reservations, you'll pay 50 cents higher price than anywhere, and you wont be able to shop around. They'll be the only gasoline available at that point. I don't remember how long it took me to get there. Sorry I can't chime in on that part of the question.

Speed limits in that area are 70-75 mph on the interstates.

I would suggest you access Mapquest too. Figure most highways have a 65 mile hour speed limit. Also, use the trip cost planning guide on this site.

I would think you'd be more interested in the speeds and speed traps along I-10 ...

if that's how you feel then delete my account. no skin off my back. But responses from your buddy give people enough reason to leave. I joined this site because I enjoy your app. and like the fact it's people helping people. But with people responding like that with condescending remarks then who needs to be here???
"But, you joined Gas Buddy just to start this topic? Amazing. Simply amazing."He's a big boy and i'm sure he can take a little back talk. it's the internet. I just saw general discussion on the main page and thought hell i'll start a thread and get some more ideas for long hauls. But obviously i can tell you assume no one cares and that's fine. it's ya'll decision to limit the freedom of speech.

PrimetimeR1: Your response is inappropriate and has been reported. Gas_Buddy gave you advice that more likely get you the information you are looking for. Placing this topic in a local discussion board where members in the area may be better positioned to answer your question is probably more effective than where you have placed it. On this national board the members throughout the rest of the US and Canada are probably not in a position to give your advice or care about your trip.
You had not been a member for one day, but imply to be an expert on "the reason a lot of people leave the site"? Your last comment is vulgar and inappropriate for this site. If you are an expert in that area, we certainly do not need to know it.
There has been an ongoing discussion on whether to place restrictions on the ability of new members to create new discussion topics. This discussion certainly lends supports that idea.

Are you asking this as a "fuel economy" question, such as getting gas, etc?
Otherwise, this would be a better question to ask in the local New Mexico or Arizona and/or Nevada discussion categories, rather than in general, asking people across the United States and Canada. You could check with AAA, or you could check the internet regarding speed limits, rather than depending on the memory of people here.
But, you joined Gas Buddy just to start this topic? Amazing. Simply amazing.
