"there seems to be an acceptance of the engine/transmission combination issue."
I don't see these options being out of whack for the market. 2 litre with 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic? 1.4 litre TURBO with 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic?

Good Morning esteeMI,
An update to my previous post shows that the Dodge Dart was not as well received by the buyer as CEO, Mr. Marchionne of Fiat, had hoped. Only 25,000 vehicles were sold in the first year. From my readings, there seems to be an acceptance of the engine/transmission combination issue. Dodge will be introducing a nine-speed transmission in future models. I have not read of any engine change. Perhaps another Gas Buddy has the latest information?
Take care :-). MGY

I see a lot on the road. Looks very sharp. Much bigger than the neon for Dodge entry level car. Absolutely shocked to see they can cost up to 27K.

I've not seen one. In the current Consumer Reports, they were not overly impressed.

I have owned 8 Chrysler products over the last 25 years and not one has ever left me stranded. I currently drive a 2012 Avenger with 20,000 miles on it and have never taken it in for anything beside oil changes.
I looked at the Dart, but it is a smaller car than I need although the MPG sound good.Maybe some day....

Hello esteeMI. I seriously followed the development and introduction of the new Dodge Dart and considered both it and the Chevrolet Sonic Hatchback. My first vehicle was a 1973 Dodge Dart Swinger ordered from Southeast Asia through Chrysler Military Auto Sales. That vehicle cost $2,964 at the time (GI pay was $431.30 a month) and its fit, finish and body integrity were poor. In three years of ownership, it literally rusted out and fell apart. The driveline was good, but the 318 cubic inch engine with a 355 Posi-traction rear end only got 11 MPG. I decided to give Dodge another chance with the new model, but found that while some may wish to pick and choose every option, I feel an option package like GM uses (e.g. LS, LT, LTZ, etc) offers more of what I like for thousands less than the Dart. I also required a hatchback (two large dogs - a Collie & a German Shepherd) and the Dodge Dart did not offer that. Take care :-). MGY

I like the way it looks and the variety of options...I just hope the build quality is better than the aweful Dodge Neon.

I didnt explain myself correctly. rumbleseat and jscdig you guys are absolutely right.
But the matter of competition created vehicle lines is a good conversation for another topic. All in all the 60's and 70' made some great cars!
I am still bummed Dodge brought back the Dart our of context. Whether it be the original style, 70's style, or the duster style, this is kind of an insult to the retro trend.

The original Dart came out in 1960. It was based on the Plymouth and gave Dodge dealers a smaller car to sell than the full sized Polara. In 1962, Chrysler did their famous downsizing of Dodge and Plymouth, making them essentially mid-sized cars. The Dart and Polara became one with the Polara and Polara 500 being the premium model. Chrysler quickly realized the error of its ways and brought out the Custom 880 which was a 1962 Chrysler Newport with a 1961 Polara front clip. In 1963, the Dart again became a "compact" Dodge, completely redesigned along with the Valiant. I believe the Valiant had a 108" wheelbae, the Dart, 113". The Polara wheelbase was increased to 119" - thus giving Dodge three distinct sized cars to sell - Dart, Polara and Custom 880. Things stayed essentially the same for 1964, then in 1965, the former Polara became the mid-sized Coronet, while Polara moved up to the Custom 880 wheelbase. The Dart was given face lifts for 1965 & 1966 before being redesigned in 1967 - and keeping essentially the same body until the end in 1976. During those years, Darts could be plain jane economy sedans or true performance machines.

rjro says: "it looks like a neon." Either you have poor recall of the Neon, or you have NEVER seen the new Dart. There is nothing similar between the 2 vehicles other than they both have wheels, seats, and windows.
And this isn't being released in an effort to jumpstart a muscle car name, the original Dart was NOT a muscle car, or competition for the Mustang, the standard engine offering was the 225 slant 6, and the line-up included a station wagon. It wasn't until 1965 that any kind of muscle name was attached to any Dart, when they had the Dodge Dart Charger. In 1969 there was the Swinger 340, and a limited edition Dart GTS with a 440 cu in engine.
The Plymouth Barracuda was Chrysler's answer to the Ford Mustang, and it spun off the first generation Dodge Challenger in 1970.

I think Dodge just ruined the comeback of muscle car names. The Dart started as Mustang competition in 64. Ugly but a decent 2 door. I think Dodge could have done so much better in recreating a classic muscle car and keeping up with its classic name.
SIDE NOTE- I am not saying the A-body Dart was anything crazy, but it did have its place with the Hemi, the GT and the later SE

disappointed to see no coupe option, interesting Active grille shuttering technology to reduce drag & like the Chevy Sonic it has a miniature 1.4L turbo charged engine to further enhance MPG. overall styling seems nicer than other similar class vehicles, they just need to add a 2 door model.

Almost every company has teething problems with a new car. All the majors have had recalls. It's when a model has been out for several years and they're still having problems that I get concerned.

"These cars already have a recall"
That would be a responsible company being pro-active, not waiting for stupid designs to kill people before investigating. You declined to give a link. A search of several sites reveals no recalls at this time. If you have a link to a site that actually shows that recall, I would like to see it.

These cars already have a recall for the manual transmission . The slave cylinder and another parts has to be replaced. Think there was 6,000 or them in total.

A - It is a Dodge Dart in name only, it has nothing in common with the old Dart, whether you liked it or not, other than 4 wheels. B - It is also not a Chrysler design. C - Other than the name, it is also not "retro".
It is based on an Alfa Romeo Giulietta, made slightly larger for fat North American butts. I have seen several of them, and in blue or red, it is a very striking vehicle.

I would be very afraid to buy it since it is a Chrysler. Repair records for Chrylser or typically the worst right along with Mercedes Benz and Volkswagons.

I was looking at one on the lot, if you get the audio upgrade you get a big 8.4 inch touch screen, that is kind of neat but otherwise I don't think I like the car.

I do recall a close friend who had one bad a$$1969 Dodge Dart Demon with a 340 V8 that was no dog in the 1/4 mile an would PUSH you back in the seat when that 4 bbl kicked in. I think to many people remember the old reliable slant 6 and 273 or the poor 340 that come out in 1970 that was seriously detuned for emissions reasons and also some say for insurance reasons.
