Did you ever wonder where that little sticker on the pump certifying the accuracy of the pump comes from? Twice I've watched the certification process at a gas station. There's a utility truck with oddly-shaped steel vats to hold fuel dispensed from the pump and confirm the pump's accuracy.

It was interesting to watch the process. I did wonder what they do with the gas because I doubt the truck could consume it quickly enough.

Yup. They check at least once each year and when complaints are received by the public.

Yes
I have even seen them close a pump down because it shorted the buyer.
I have seen the station close a pump down because it gave you to much.

I've seen the County regulator checking pumps on several occasions. Where I buy fuel the certification stickers are always current.

I've seen it once. It was a pickup truck with a couple of metal tubs with a glass piece to view the amount with a measuring stick or device labeled on it. I was checking it out to see how it was working. Guy didn't want to explain since he was working.

Yes many times I've seen the department of weights and measures at gas stations checking the pumps for accuracy. How often they do it depends on how old the pumps are. The older the pumps the more often they do it.

Since I fly I pull samples once in a while myself just to see how much ethanol is in the tank I have a gauge / vile that can tell how much % of ethanol is present in the gas .......if you want to call it that..

I am not sure if it is the county or state, but they do it pretty regularly around here. It's usually a pickup truck with a little trailer that contains some funny looking vessels.

yes I have seen it many times because I used to manage truck stops. And as others have mentioned, the gas/diesel is put back into the appropriate storage tanks when they are done.
