I was just wondering what everyone thinks about not using "Drive Thru's" unless you have a handicapped card. I think it would save this nation a lot of fuel and also help with the weight problem we have in this country.

No, I love drive thru, in case you are in a hurry and do not have the time to get out to go in.

Lets just take away all modern conveniences; elevators, indoor plumbing, AC, etc.. Sounds like an idea our government would spend our tax dollars on to study.

I simply don't have a problem with drive-thru's They have been a part of the Nations so called progress. Convenience for some due to the fast pace of life, handy is handy like waste-full is waste-full, that choice is for all.

Each Era has it's trends some are good, some not, Trends get advertised, often take hold that makes a living/profit for many (circles for better success).

Maybe not using elevators, escalators, golf carts, taxis, busses, or even televisions could reduce weight problems, then saving fuel, seats removed would require stand-up eating, that might be more tiresome therefor eating less daily, then more progress takes off for newer trends..... Great! More moneymakers then more taxes! Great newer Trends...Maybe convenient again.

It's a nice idea but all I can think of is bank drive-up ATM's as well as when I'm on the road late at night and want to grab something to eat and drink, just for the safety of the employees as well as myself, I'd rather not be getting out of the car.

But most of the time, I try to actually get out of the car and stretch my legs for those few minutes by parking and going inside.

what would work is to make the drive thru be at the end of a downgrade, then you could drift to the window.

won't work even Mcdonalds can't maintain an orderly que at their counter. Sometimes it is a lot faster to go in when the drive thru line is backed up!

The new style driveup ATM machines now take cash, count it and give you a receipt right on the spot. Love 'em. No need anymore to park, go inside, and deal with bank lines. Never did trust the old style ATMs where you had to trust that the teller was honest.

I've been doing cash transactions over the last year now. It has been a pain and inconvenient to get to the bank. Plus there is always a line inside the bank. Now I can make a driveup ATM cash deposit at 10PM (11PM? , midnight?) from the safety and comfort of my car.

Yey a better way to regulate behavior would be to do away with toilet paper, stuff on a roll, I mean stuff off a roll, one square at a time. That's realistic savings!

There are reasons why businesses thought up[ of drive-thru's in the first place... it increases business.

Some people don't want to get out of their car... some stop off quickly on the way home to pick up dinner and don't want to drag kiddies out of the car.

That's the way society is today. Today it takes two salaries to make ends meet, where, in the past, dad used to go to work while mom was able to stay home to run the household and dinner was always ready when everyone got home. There is less time to do the everyday things as there was in the past, so people spend less and less time doing the every day stuff. There are so many things to take care of in the morning that many are barely making it out the door in time so they have to stop at that coffee place in a rush on the way.

Another important reason to skip going inside.

When you go in, all the goodies are on display in cases. If you have weak will power, its too tempting to buy a jumbo muffin to go with the coffee. So instead of what? 20 calories for the coffee, you just added what? 650 calories with the muffin.

No such temptation at the drive in as you can't see the goodies.

Grabbed a hot coffee at 4PM today when I went hiking. No one at the drive through (as usual). I zipped through in 2 seconds. I always say a little prayer of thanks to the the fast food Gods, or whoever invented drive in windows. Makes my life a little more pleasant to order from the car seat.

hemond - "If there is a line outside, its even more jammed inside. "

Then you explain to me how I can pull into the bank or fast food joint right behind someone that goes to the drive-thru and park, shut off the engine, walk inside, do my business, walk back to my automobile, start the engine and leave before the person that went to the drive-thru even gets to the window. That is the case here 90% of the time. The only time it's just as fast to go to the drive-thru is after about 7pm at the fast food joint.

Sit in line? Why would you do that? I use drive ins daily and never, repeat never sit in a line. I hate sitting in a line.

If there is a line, there is a simple answer, skip it for the moment. And this business about its quicker to go inside is nonsense. If there is a line outside, its even more jammed inside.

Just because they are there, you do not have to use them. If people want to sit in line, let them. It is their money.

hemond - "Went to Dunkin's drive through today at 6PM. Only one in line. Took me 30 seconds. That is typical time in the drive through. "

wouldn't happen up here you'd be waiting longer in the drive-thru then if you went inside and got your over-priced coffee at Dunkin's. Same with the bank or fast food joint. People are just too lazy to walk 50 feet to the door. I've gone to these places many times and parked, shut off the engine, gone inside done my business, got back into my automobile, started it and left before the person the pulled into the parking lot right in front of me and went to the drive-thru even got to the window. I've said it before and I'll say it again the drive-thru should only be for the elderly, Handicapped, or people with more than one small child with them and that's it the lazy people out there should walk. It's just like those people that will waste gas driving around the parking lot 4-5 times waiting for the closest parking spot to open up because they might have to walk an extra 20-50 feet to the door of the store or mall they are going into.

I would be happy if the cops enforced the "No Idling" outside the local elementary school. Parents show up and spend an hour playing with their tech toys all the time with motors running.

Unless government makes serious progress at keeping traffic moving rather than making us stop at every traffic light, often several times just to get through the intersection, then drive through lines at businesses are trivial worries.

We don't have drive through liquor marts, but we DO have drive through beer vendors at many of the larger hotels, as well as walk-in counter service. It is rare to see the vendor drive-through backed up as much as drive-through fast food places.

::::I think it LOL funny that Colorado, LIQUOR STORES HAVE DRIVE THRUS!! :::

Most states have drive through liquor stores. Hardly unique to CO. There's a couple around here.
There's a clever one in Tampa, you actually drive INTO the liquor store, its an old car wash. They even load the hootch into your trunk for you.
